Everyone shares the Class of 2020’s disappointment regarding this year’s commissioning, The Academy community is striving to hone the Class of 2020 as normally and appropriately as it can within the current state restrictions. The Academy reminds all of us to refrain from hosting activities that fall outside of current pandemic guidance for our respective communities, and asks all Midshipmen to refrain from participating in any activities that do not align with government guidelines and military move orders.
Unfortunately, the Club had to cancel our Firstie Dinner event due to the pandemic. However, the Club will still be celebrating our class of 2020 graduates by presenting each one of them with a U.S. flag that was flown over the Pentagon in honor of their 2016 Induction Day.
You can view Superintendent Sean Buck’s message and letter to the Brigade of Midshipmen and parents for more details. For the latest updates on USNA’s status and programs during the pandemic, visit USNA’s Covid-19 webpage.

USNA plans for I-Day are still up in the air, but we are looking ahead and making plans. If there is an opportunity for parent clubs to exhibit on the Yard on I-Day, we will be there! Thanks to Stacy Chesire for spearheading our volunteer effort that day. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Stacy.
For our Class of 2024 Club members, the incoming plebes have received emails explaining how to download and complete their Permit to Report paperwork which is posted on the Plebe Summer website. The Permit to Report will not be sent by regular mail this year will not be sent by regular mail this year. Class of 2024 parents should visit the parent dashboard on the Alumni Association website to crate an account, provide critical parent information, and sign up for the summer photo program that enables parents to view weekly photo updates from Plebe Summer. You don’t want to miss out on the photo program!
The next meeting of the Northern Virginia USNA Parent Club will be held via Zoom on May 18th at 7 p.m. Our meetings are open to all and we would love to have you join us!
Please email and let us know if you’d like to call in.

Parent club leadership is fun and rewarding! Plus, the club has a clear roadmap for its activities and all guidance from prior years is easily accessible. It is important for the club to have its succession plan in place for the ’20-’21 academic year to ensure an easy transition and a vibrant future for the club when current leadership cycles out this summer. If you feel called to serve and are daring to lead, please let us know!
Thank you again to everyone who has volunteered to support our club, midshipman and their families. Here are some other opportunities for volunteering:
CLUB SECRETARY: This person attends club board meetings and takes the minutes
CLUB PRESIDENT & VICE PRESIDENT: This person or couple participates in the club board meetings and activities. They will have the opportunity to step into the president’s role when current co-presidents transition out of their leadership roles next year. The club would like to have a succession plan in place too for the ’20-’21 academic year to ensure an easy transition and a vibrant club for the future.
USNA reminds us that midshipmen may not “be present in a residence that is not the primary residence of the principal leaseholder or owner at times when the principal leaseholder or owner is not also physically present at the residence.” This means that parents cannot rent temporary accommodations or own second homes in Annapolis and allow their midshipmen to us those residences when the parents are not present. Also, midshipmen may not rent Airbnb’s or similar accommodations larger than a hotel room without permission from the Battalion Officer for rentals within 150 miles of the chapel dome, or permission from the Company Officer if the rental is outside a 150 mile radius.
These prohibitions are in the MIDREGS and violations are dismissible offenses. Please be mindful of these restrictions and make sure your midshipmen understand these limitations apply to them. Also, please recognize that USNA participates in many of the parent social media platforms and is aware of activities through participation in these forums.
